Sunday was a day to give thanks. I also was grateful to visit Monterey, CA

In Carmel, California there is a spitirual building with a long history. San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission has been in existence since 1771. Founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1770 in Monterey, CA to offer a place of worship many years before the Constitution stated in Amendment 1: Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Father Serra moved this mission to Carmel in 1771 for a less military location than in Monterey.

Note : Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

On Sunday, we went to Mass in this rustic old building with a few hundred other parishoners and hear of a renovation project in the near future involving removal and replacement of the roof structure of this ancient building. Moisture and the sun have combined forces to cause major destruction to the fragile cement of long ago. The project is estimated at $14M...

The side entrance provides a colorful vista from the courtyard.

I don't need to explain this picture.

One does not need to be a Catholic, a Christian or religious at all to experience a peaceful feeling when strolling  through these covered walk or taking the time to just sit on one of the dozen or so of the wooden benches which offer a view of the fountain in the courtyard.

The fountain provided, on this day, a backdrop for a photo class project John and Victoria were shooting, even though the wind was gusting in every direction, the cloudy sky was testing John and the light box was tired and just wanted to lay down in the middle of most shoots.
